Marchese Incisa Leopoldo Piemonte Pinot Nero DOC 2019

Piedmont, Italy
750 ml
91 pts. James Suckling:

"A rich and flavorful pinot with aromas of chocolate, dried earth, wild mushrooms, fruit peel, spiced plums and cherry stones. Medium to full body, with relatively firm tannins and a compact core of spicy fruit. Drink now or hold."

The Incisa family has roots in Piedmont going back to the 1400's; the winery in the Monferrato region is still run by the family to this day! In the 1850's, Leopoldo Incisa planted Pinot Noir vines from cuttings he brought back with him from his travels in France. The family continues to cultivate these old vines and produce amazing Pinot Neros! This is truly an "old vine, old world" Pinot - there's a lot of earthiness going on, enlivened by that signature Italian acidity. It pairs particularly well with mushroom dishes. We love this wine! - Wine Factor

FROM THE WINERY

Obtained from Pinot Noir grapes, aged in barriques up to 14 months.

Pinot Noir is a relatively little-dipted grape variety in Piedmont, but it is very important for the oenological tradition of our family. To this wine, in fact, we gave the name of our ancestor Leopoldo Incisa della Rocchetta, famous ampelographer and ante-litteram winemaker, who lived in the 1800’s. Leopoldo Incisa created at the time a vast collection of vines from other regions, experimenting with cultivation in their possessions on the hills of Rocchetta Tanaro. Pinot Noir became its favorite vine and the one from which it made the greatest satisfactions. We still keep alive this tradition while cultivating Pinot Noir in the same vineyards where Leopoldo began his own experiments with this vine.

Tasting notes

Colour: intense ruby red.

Olfactory profile: varietal, notes of blueberry and ripe cherry, spicy notes, tobacco and other tertiary aromas with the evolution in the bottle.

Gustativo profile: highlights a very pronounced fruit, precise and elegant finish, structured by fine and sweet tannins.

Pairings: Marchese Leopoldo goes very well with white meats as well as fish, shellfish and medium-aged cheeses. Suggested serving temperature: 18-20 degrees C

Aging: Pinot Nero Marchese Leopoldo benefits from aging in the bottle. It can be consumed immediately, just put on the market, even if it begins to express itself at its best after at least 2 years of aging in the bottle. It keeps its best features for about 10 years.

Alcohol: 14.5%
