Cakebread Cellars Two Creeks Vineyards Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 2022

Cakebread has been a highly-respected winery in Napa for a very long time. Like all the wines they produce, their Anderson Valley Pinot Noirs are outstanding. We absolutely LOVE the 2022 Two Creeks! It has all the nuances we look for in a good Anderson Valley Pinot - subtle redwood forest on the nose, with soft fruit, earth, and spices on the palate. This is a melt-in-your-mouth wine! - Wine Factor

FROM THE WINERY

We call our family's Annahala and Apple Barn estate vineyards the 'Two Creek Vineyards,' since these former apple orchards sit on the banks of Anderson Creek, not far from the Pacific Ocean. Here, the soils and weather patterns are ideal for cultivating Pinot Noir, which thrives in the chilly, maritime climate due to the proximity of the Pacific. This climate promotes slow and even ripening, which results in grapes with maximum fruit flavors and a precise balance of opulence and structure.

The Two Creeks Pinot Noir showcases a bouquet of fresh berries and delicate floral hints on the nose. On the palate, it presents as a medium-bodied wine with delightful flavors of raspberry, strawberry jam, and black cherry. Subtle notes of baking spices and sweet toasty oak grace the bright berry finish. Its vibrant acidity blends seamlessly with silky tannins, leaving a lingering, rounded sensation in the mouth.

VINEYARDS & VINTAGE

Our family's cherished Annahala and Apple Barn estate vineyards, once apple orchards, are situated along Anderson Creek near the Pacific Ocean. Despite being just a few miles apart, these vineyards offer distinct characteristics: Annahala, closer to the ocean and enshrouded in coastal fog, yields a lighter Pinot Noir, while the gravel-rich soils and slightly warmer climate of Apple Barn produce a more robust expression of the varietal. Both sites benefit from warm afternoon sun and cool evenings, fostering grapes that achieve a harmonious equilibrium between ripe fruit notes and invigorating acidity. With 98% of grapes blended from across these two sites, Two Creeks Pinot Noir delivers a pleasing balance of fruit flavor, rich texture, and structural finesse.

The 2022 vintage had high climate variability beginning with a cool and mild spring followed by a warm summer. Grape quality was still exceptional with balanced acidity and freshness, resulting in vibrant fruit-forward wines.

WINEMAKING

Harvested under the night's cover to retain freshness, purity, and natural acidity, our grapes were hand-sorted, destemmed, and fermented separately by vineyard block in small tanks. Delicate punch-downs during fermentation extracted maximum fruit flavor, color, and fine tannins. To heighten complexity and add spicy aromatics, 20% of the fruit underwent fermentation with stems. Aged in French oak barrels (35% new) for ten months, the wine was bottled after settling, preserving Anderson Valley's elegant fruit expression.
