For an inexpensive Pinot Noir, this wine is sure to impress. It definitely impressed us when we tasted it! Made from select vineyards in the Central Coast AVA, the grapes were craftily blended into a gorgeous wine. We wouldn’t expect anything less from Calera, they’re a class act!

FROM THE WINERY

In 1975, legendary vintner and pioneer Josh Jensen founded Calera (Spanish for “lime kiln”) high in the Gavilan Mountains of California’s majestic Central Coast. In the four decades since, Calera has helped establish the Central Coast as one of the New World’s most exciting wine regions, while earning acclaim as one of California’s iconic wineries. Crafted using grapes from a handful of the finest vineyards on the Central Coast, this alluring wine offers enticing aromatics, soft, velvety tannins and vibrant fruit and spice. This Pinot Noir is nuanced and complex with a long, lush finish, making it a benchmark for the region.

VINTAGE NOTES

After a cool, wet start to the season, summer brought near-perfect weather to the Central Coast, with warm, sunny days and cool nights. This weather continued into autumn, ensuring abundant hangtime. We were able to harvest all of our vineyards exactly when we wished, resulting in vibrant white wines with lovely tension and depth, and beautifully aromatic reds with age-worthy structures, dynamic fresh-fruit flavors and elegant underlying complexity.

WINEMAKING NOTES

This lush and alluring Pinot Noir offers a beautiful bouquet of raspberry, cherry and wild strawberry aromas, with hints of sagebrush and dried herbs adding nuance and complexity. The vibrant red berry layers are echoed on the plush, mouth-coating palate, where a beam of cool-climate acidity adds poise and definition, carrying the flavors to a long, elegant finish.
